Hydrogen Relief
It is a critical process for steel parts with hardness >= 32 HRC or mechanical strength >= 1000 N/mm2, the operational parameters are defined considering steel type, hardness, mechanical strength and applicable specification.
Eplating counts with a specialized hydrogen relief-continuous-mesh beltoven for high volume processing at same throughput of the plating lines, parts get into the oven in less than 15 min that the plating process is finished.
The main features of this oven are:
- High thermal efficiency due to forced convection heating system.
- High production capacity.
- Automatic control according CQI-11.
- Variable mesh speed, allowing to fix different soaking times to meet specification requirements.
- Reliable and repeatable results.
-
Coefficient of friction control topcoats.
Topcoats.
Automotive assemblies require junctions with the clamping force specified in its design, normally clamping torque on nuts and bolts generates loses due to mechanical friction.
A measure to assure those assemblies meet the specification is the application of lubricant products being able to modify the coefficient of friction of the involved surfaces.
Eplating offers a broad range of torque and tension control products TNT from MacDermid Enthone, with CoF from 0.08 to 0.18, those are:
-
- TNT 08
- TNT 11
- TNT 12
-
- TNT 15
- TNT UV

-
UV Tracers
The application of TNT products on treated parts can be easily demonstrated by exposure to UV light causing fluorescent spots as shown in the photograph.
-
Test laboratory
We count with these tests to demonstrate compliance of our surface treatments:
- - Corrosion in neutral salt spray chamber.
- - XRF, X-ray fluoroscopy.
- - Adhesion by thermal shock.
- - Hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility.
- - Bath chemical analysis.
- - Hull Cell.
- - Coefficient of friction (coming soon).
-
Corrosion test in neutral salt spray chamber.
Applicable standards:
ASTM B-117
ISO 9227
Automotive specifications:
Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Bosch, Ford
General Motors, FCA, VolksWagen, etc.
-
Fluoroscopia de rayos X
It is a non-destructive test to determine:
- Plating thickness.
- Alloy percent.
- Metal ion concentration for controlling plating baths.
- Statistical analysis and trending.
Testing method according ISO 3497 standard.
-
Hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility test:
This test is applied to plated high strength fasteners, using a part-specific fixture.
Part being tested is placed in the fixture and subjected to a toque high enough to develop a tensile strain of 80% of its specified yield strength.
The part must withstand this tensile strain at least during 48 h without part rupture, torque must be verified and corrected as necessary at lest each 24 h.
-
Plate adhesion test by thermal shock
Plating performance depends at great extent on the adhesion of deposited metallic layer, this test is simple and well accepted in most of the automotive and international specifications.
Parts are heated in an automatic controlled laboratory oven, at specified temperature and time according the applicable specification, followed by sudden and fast cooing in water at room temperature.
The plated layer must not show peeling.
-
Coefficient of friction test
It is done according ISO 16047 standard.
Eplating will include this test in its service range soon.
